Seeing one of Jay Leno’s cars get auctioned off is never boring. This time Mr. Leno auctioned off his limited edition 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8. An avid car collector, Leno put the muscle car up for auction with the proceeds going to the United Service Organization (USO). It sold for a whopping $360,000.
As if that wasn’t enough, generous donators put in an additional $205,000. Every cent is going to the nonprofit organization. “When people know that 100 percent of it is going directly to the men and women of the armed forces, they really step up, and that was fun to see,” Jay Leno said. Leno offered to deliver the car himself until he learned the buyer was from Maine.
The Gooding & Company’s Scottsdale Auction raised a total of $565,000 on Leno’s contribution alone. Last year, Leno put up a restored 1957 Buick Caballero Estate station wagon signed by George W. Bush.
The proceeds on that sale headed to the George W. Bush Military Service Initiative. The first buyer paid $300,000 and immediately donated it back. It raised another $280,000. Leno’s website for cars and collecting is here.
