Neil Young’s 1953 Buick Roadmaster Skylark Goes Big at Auction

There’s no denying that the 1953 Buick Roadmaster Skylark was an icon of its time, and an even rarer find recently went for a six-figure price tag. The Buick Roadmaster Skylark that went to auction wasn’t just any car, though. It had been customized for Neil Young and sold for a whopping $400,000.

This Buick Roadmaster Skylark convertible is a one-of-a-kind model. It boasts a steering wheel hub with “Customized for Neil Young” inscribed on it. The Buick code 76X Roadmaster Skylark Convertible saw a production run of just 1,690 vehicles, making this car even rarer. The model features a two-tone red and white leather interior.

Neil Young’s 1953 Buick Roadmaster Skylark exceeded expectations by selling for $100,000 above its projected value of $300,000, making it the highest-priced sale of the day. It wasn’t the only Neil Young car to be auctioned off, though.

A 1941 Chrysler Series 28 Windsor Highlander sold for $35,200 at the auction. According to Young, it was once owned by Steve McQueen. The third model, a 1948 Buick Roadmaster Hearse, exceeded expectations as well, selling for just over $31,000.

Neil Young’s lifelong collection of trains went up for sale, netting around $300,000. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Bridge School in California. The school was founded in 1986 and helps children with disabilities.
